Creating Site Variations in Optimizely

How will this Integration Help me?

Clearbit Reveal in Optimizely allows you to craft unique user journeys on your company’s website by tailoring the digital experience based on which companies are visiting your site- even if they’ve never self-identified by using IP Addresses.

IP addresses can tell you a lot about your visitors, like physical location (country), time zone. Using Clearbit’s Reveal technology you can use a visitor's IP address to find over 50 data points, including Company Name, Employee Count, Company Location, Revenue, and even the Company Tech Stack. This data gives you a huge advantage: you’re now able to speak directly your different audiences and tell them you know who they are and what their needs are.

By making your marketing hyper-personalized, you’ll see higher conversion rates, better engagement, and ultimately more of the right kind of customers.

This article will show you the four site variations that are possible within Optimizely.

Within Optimizely Experiments

Create a Variation by clicking on:

  1. Experiments
  2. Edit Variation #1
  3. Create

Decide which variation works best for you

How do you want to personalize the experience?

1 ) Make a change to an existing element

2 ) Insert customized HTML on the site

3 ) Insert a customized image on the site

4 ) Redirect the visitor to another page

1 ) Make a change to an existing element

This variation displays a customize message to your ideal prospects. This is extremely valuable say, for example, you want to change your homepage experience for business visitors with over 50 employees so they're greeted with a more prominent "Acme for Enterprise" header.

To implement this variation, you'll want to:

  • Edit Variation #1
  • Click Create Change and select the Element Change option

  • For the Selector field, save h1
  • Insert the text you’d like to display in the HTML box
  • Make sure to set
    • Visibility to: visible
    • Rearrange to: Before
    • Position to: Static
  • Press Save

2 ) Insert customized HTML on the site

This variation lets you customize your site via HTML. The value here comes from the ability to speak directly to your visitor by showing their company's name on your homepage. (Hint: check out Clearbit's page as an example!)

To implement this variation, you'll want to:

  • Edit Variation #1
  • Click Create Change and select Insert HTML

  • Click into the Variation Code Editor and drop in your basic line of jQuery:

                    $("h1").text(window.reveal.company.name);

Note: this code displays to the visitor their company’s name.

  • Press Save & Apply

3 ) Insert a custom image on the site

This variation displays a custom image to select visitors. A valuable way to use this variation is through influence by showing a visitor (from a specific industry) your current customers' logos who are from the same industry.

To implement this variation, you'll want to:

  • Edit Variation #1
  • Click Create Change and select Insert Image

  • Use Image Placement to specify where you’d like to place your image
  • Upload the image via Upload Now
  • Press Save

4 ) Redirect the visitor to another page

This variation redirects the visitor to a specific site of your choosing. This is extremely valuable when your target accounts visit your website and they're automatically shown a specific portal.

To implement this variation, you'll want to:

  • Edit Variation #1
  • Click Create Change and select Redirect

  • Drop in the URL you want to Redirect to
  • Press Save
