Legacy: Why am I receiving a 422 error?

Last Updated: December 21, 2023

🔍 Please note: this article is for customers on Standard Bundle, Enrichment, or Clearbit Platform plans.

A 422 error indicates a validation error that occurred during Clearbit Enrichment and Clearbit Reveal API calls.

This error may occur when the email or domain you are attempting to enrich is improperly formatted or cannot be validated. For instance, a 422 error can occur if the record is missing a top-level domain, contains an invalid top-level domain, or has a malformed email address.

API calls are deemed invalid in the following scenarios:

  • The username portion of the email belongs to a non-person entity, such as "info@clearbit.com" These emails are considered invalid as they do not correspond to a specific individual
  • The domain yields an incorrect value, such as a misspelled domain or a domain that does not redirect to a valid page. For example, "www.mu'sli.com"

To track the specific API calls that resulted in a 422 error, please refer to the "Logs" section in your Clearbit dashboard.
