What Cookies Does Clearbit Set in a Visitor's Browser?
Last Updated: November 9, 2022
The Clearbit Tag adds cookies to the browser if Cookie Tracking is enabled in the Clearbit Tag configuration. Clearbit only sets 1st party cookies in the visitor's browser.
Clearbit does not use 3rd party cookies to track visitors. Typically 3rd party cookies are used by advertising platforms to retarget users as they browse across the web.
To enable or disable cookie tracking, navigate to Integrations > Clearbit Tag and adjust the Cookie Tracking toggle.
Analytics Cookies
These are the non-essential cookies controlled by the Cookie Tracking toggle. If the Cookie Tracking toggle is disabled, Clearbit will not set these cookies.
cb_anonymous_id: This is the only cookie Clearbit uses 'out of the box'. It is a unique ID for each anonymous site visitor used to attribute page views back to that anonymous individual.
cb_user_id: This cookie keeps track of the visitor's identity. This cookie is set when a user visits a page with the Clearbit Tag, but the cookie value is null until the visitor is identified using the identify call method. When the visitor has been identified, this cookie will store a unique user ID used to attribute web activity to the individual within the Clearbit platform.
cb_group_id: This cookie keeps track of group information, like an account that a user belongs to or a company they work for. This cookie is set when a user visits a page with the Clearbit Tag, but the cookie value is null until a group is identified using the group call method. Group calls can be used to pass custom traits about a company, product account, or other group to Clearbit for use in Company Audiences.
